Malcolm offers a diverse background of construction and repair, as well as solid business management skills and experience from managing his own business interests. He has built complete exploration and drill camps in remote locations, both in the Northwest Territories, Nunavut and throughout Canada. This has included assembly and prefabrication of camp and materials in Yellowknife as well as the logistics for transportation and mobilizations of the camp to a remote location. He is a lifelong resident of Yellowknife.
Rod Brown B.Sc. Geology
A life long resident of Yellowknife, Rod brings experience as an exploration geologist who spent a number of years working in the field as well working underground. In 1990 Rod began expediting for the Geological Survey of Canada and then full time as an expeditor for PCL for the construction phase of the Colomac Mine in the NWT. Once the mine was completed Rod was head of logistics and expediting for the complete operation of Colomac Mine which included the organization and transportation of all supplies and passengers for this remote mine that employed 500 people. In 1992 Rod and partner Juanita Rocher started Discovery Mining Services Ltd. with Malcolm McLean coming on as partner a year later. Over the past 21 years, the company grew from expediting to an experienced and reliable remote camp provider.
Camp Operations Manager
Mathieu was born in Inuvik NT and raised in Montreal QC, enabling him to work in bilingual environments. Growing up, Mathieu always sought new adventures and new challenges which Discovery Mining helped him achieve over the past 7 years. He began as a camp builder where he travelled across the country constructing custom camps throughout different climate settings and remote locations. He was then promoted to Remote Camp Specialist where he learned camp design and construction; this strengthened his logistics and communication skills and allowed Mathieu to be the on ground liaison between customer and head office.
Recently Mathieu took the roll of Camp Operations Manager, through his acquired knowledge he will help Discovery Mining Services team achieve their business goals.
Kevin has called Yellowknife home for the past 18 years. He has served with the Canadian Forces in various locations including a peace keeping assignment in Bosnia. More recently he has completed 18 years with a civil Hercules aircraft heavy lift operation based in Yellowknife first as a Hercules / 737 loadmaster and later as the coordinator for the Hercules operations. Kevin’s focus has always been on transportation whether moving goods for the military or delivering supplies for mining, exploration, government department, or civil works projects in Canada and abroad. Throughout that time he has taken part in moving airlifted materials for the constructing of all the existing mining projects in the NWT and Nunavut along with moving critical items around the world such as power plants, prototype cars for testing, power plant turbines, race horses, and aircraft engines. Kevin also has assisted customers in consulting on requirements for the building of runways to be utilized by the Hercules aircraft along with freight preparation for oversize pieces being transported into remote locations.
Jennifer was born in Winnipge MB, raised and lived in Yellowknife her entire life. She started working as a Shipper/Receiver after high school and was offered a position with Miramar Mining (now Newmont) located at Yellowknife's Con Mine as a shipprt/Receiver for Hope Bay. Jennifer was responsible for Core Sample Shipping and organizing all types of freight. This is where she was introduced to the Discovery Mining crew. Jennifer joined Discovery Mining Services in 2010 as a runner/expeditor and has since taken the position of a Logistics Manager. She has been a part of our team for 3 years.
